Beth Rice from England believes in climate education and science to solve the climate crisis. Her incredible work at ground level has been exceptionally impactful. And she is determined to make that positive impact on a large scale. She also believes in the power of youth in climate action. And we can see her work in implementing climate education in schools; it’s been an incredible journey. Beth Rice is also currently the Miss Earth England, 2022. I am sure you are all super excited to know more about her. Without further ado, let’s hear from Beth about her story!
BETH RICE’s Story
Hi! I’m Beth Rice, and I work in data monitoring for a clinical research organization. Over the past few years, I have grown anxious about our Earth’s future and climate change, and I felt very overwhelmed and unsure of how my actions could have an impact.
A year ago, I decided to compete in my first beauty pageant. Not knowing what to expect, I fell in love with the competition, which taught me the power I could have with my actions. In 2022, I founded the Eco Pageants UK system, a pageant focused on educating against environmental degradation and encouraging climate action. And in July, I was crowned the new Miss Earth England 2022.
This year, I have started my Climate Scientist workshops to engage young people through science to take action for our planet. Alongside this, I am writing a guide for teachers with ways we can incorporate climate change in all school subjects and petitioning the government to introduce a mandatory number of hours of climate education in schools, ideally 33 hours each year from pre-school, all the way up to the sixth form. Education is one of the most powerful tools we have to solve the climate crisis. Through educating, we can empower people to build a sustainable home, influence them to take positive climate action and show them how to hold our governments accountable to protect our world against the greatest threat modern humans have to face.
